Braces or Invisalign? Learn which Treatment Option is Best for You.

Looking to straighten your smile, but aren’t sure if Braces or Invisalign is the best fit? Both treatment options will give you a great end result. However, it’s important to learn about the benefits and challenges of each before getting started. At Cardinal Orthodontics, it’s our job to help you develop a treatment plan that will fit well with your lifestyle.

Braces

Braces utilize brackets and wires inside the mouth in order to shift teeth into the proper position. Often times elastics are used to bring teeth into perfect alignment.

Here are some benefits of having Braces:

  • Effective in almost all orthodontic cases
  • Quickly closes gaps and aligns teeth
  • Elastics allow you the option to add some color to your smile
  • Unlike braces in the past, our high-tech wires are less noticeable

Challenges:

  • Certain foods must be avoided to prevent brackets and wires from breaking
  • Brushing and flossing requires more time and effort
  • We recommend wearing a mouth guard to protect your smile while participating in sports or other athletics

Invisalign

Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to shift your teeth into proper alignment. Trays are changed out weekly, but must be worn 22 hours every day.

Benefits of Invisalign:

  • Most people will not even know you’re wearing your clear aligners! They are thin, and fit snug over your teeth.
  • Aligners can be removed while eating, so you can enjoy all of your favorite foods.
  • Same price as Braces (at Cardinal Orthodontics)
  • Comfortable and Convenient

Challenges:

  • Teeth must be brushed immediately after eating before putting aligners back in
  • Trays can stain easily if not removed before drinking anything other than water
  • Increased risk of cavities
  • May not treat every Orthodontic case as well as Braces
